PALMS. Visions of the good life. A dream, a hope, an escape from everyday life. With candles and ashtrays in the shape of palms or a glitter palm in an ice-cream sundae, we take a bit of it home—an admission that we dream a dream of great happiness, combined with a genial petty bourgeois mentality.

Elisabeth Corvey

In addition to painting, drawing, and etching, Elisabeth Corvey, artist from Dusseldorf, also focuses on the medium of collage. As she adheres elements in her pictorial constructions, she continues in an extremely individual way an artistic tradition that, especially since the Cubists, has become an influential medium of the 20th century.
She works solely with magazines; she rips outs – literally, as she does not scissors or knives – her visual vocabulary from these discarded and otherwise useless informational print media, although the selection of the motifs is made taking the composition of the work into consideration.
Thanks to her enormous collage works, Elisabeth Corvey has achieved a unique position in contemporary artistic analysis of this visual medium.
