Erich Reusch

Decentralised

In the middle of the 1950s, the sculptor Erich Reusch was one of the first artists to move away from autonomous, context-independent sculpture towards “decentralised” works that took the space around them into consideration. Reusch’s colourful and multilayered installations and objects repeatedly turned space into a theatre of experience and created new perspectives depending on the angle of vision. Since 2007 Reusch’s works have completely rejected materiality and weight. We experience them as movement, as the result of looking. Corners and edges, solid forms have not disappeared; they are still important for drawing out the slow, radiant movements and for maintaining tension.
