Erik Schmidt

Gatecrasher

The catalogue “Gatecrasher” presents the latest films by the artist Erik Schmidt whose work brings together a range of media – drawing, photography, oil painting and film. Schmidt’s film trilogy regards itself as a portrait of the type of artist who passes through the various socio-psychological parameters of “society”. The point of departure is “Hunting Grounds”, an unconventional exploration of the concept of “Heimat” with hunting scenes from the Westphalian landscape; “Bogged Down examines the issues of illness and death against the backdrop of the Bad Driburg spa resort while “Gatecrasher concludes the trilogy with extravagant scenes somewhere between dance and rapture.
