Firewall

A firewall is a security barrier for computers and computer networks; a digital safe-door that aims to protect files, and prevent them from being viewed without permission, from theft manipulation or eavesdropping. The incredible increase worldwide in the transfer of data has led to the introduction of electronic security walls but also to an increase in gigantic eavesdropping systems. Could the resulting growing network of electronically controlled surveillance methods define the relationship of personal freedom and general protection, individual responsibility and societal consensus according to completely new criteria? Eight artists examine in paintings, sculptures, installations and video the phenomenon of the firewall, not only in the literal sense of the word, but equally in the figurative sense: seeing it also as the psychical demarcation of one’s own identity.
