Gothic sculpture in Saxony

Guide through the exhibition in Schloßbergmuseum

The largest collection of medieval sculptures in Saxony is to be presented to the public from 21 June 2009 as part of a long-term cooperation between Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz – Schloßbergmuseum and the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden. This joint exhibition includes the best pieces from the Schloßbergmuseum in Chemnitz and Dresden’s Skulpturensammlung. Among the works on show are the famous Holy Sepulchre from Chemnitz’s Jakobikirche and the two Madonnas by the Master H. W. from Waldkirchen. The amalgamation of both historical collections as part of this specially organised presentation in the Schloßbergmuseum provides a unique overview of Saxony’s exquisitely coloured Gothic woodcraft.
