Heroes of today

Berlin is poor, dirty, particularly cheap – and charming. Reason enough for the seven artists featured in this catalogue to spend at least some of their time here. Something else that they have in common is that they are all young, beautiful and grew up in conditions that would be hard to rebel against, accustomed to mobility, flexibility, consumption and individualism, educated, skilled, critical. Each of them has developed their own artistic language, resulting in works of indistinct introspection, general panoramic views of a society that archives and organises, prosaic snapshots of rainbow-coloured nervous and mental diseases, images portraying the evils of consumption, dripping with paint and gelatine, eerie or faceless figures who dance to a seemingly universally understood ritual. Nothing less than the perception of reality is negotiated at all times.
