In the parks of Dortmund

Photographs and texts

Dortmund is green – examples of an unmistakeable park culture can be seen everywhere. For 2010, when the city will be the European City of Culture, 37 students and from Dortmund University of Applied Arts and Sciences and their professor, the art photographer Caroline Dlugos, have turned the parks in Dortmund into an artistic “playground”. Here they operate as photographers, creators, visual authors, directors and performers. This illustrated book shows the dynamic contrast between these imaginative presentations and the contemporary poetry and prose by young writers from the Ruhr region. An essay by Pamela C. Scorzin provides an academic introduction to the theme and investigates connections between the cultural-historical topos of presentations of nature and the photographical presentation of parks as a background or projection plane for visual ideas and constructions of reality.
