Prix Leica 2007
The Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs Paris, the Royal College of Art London and the Fachhochschule Bielefeld, following on from their before project, ran a competition for their students. This book presents the works of the twenty nominees, including the prize-winner Jessica Layton. During her House-sitting Project, she moved into flats, made herself familiar with their interiors and attempted to imitate their habitus and was portrayed as an ostensible flatmate in this authentic setting. In addition to this amusing game of illusion, she also poses a series of questions: What can portrait photography still achieve, if anything? Does it aim to characterise the person portrayed in such a way that their individuality is underlined, to show this person as he or she really is? But what is any person really like?
