Bernhard Dörries — Mit dem Auge denken

This book presents and juxtaposes two painters: Bernhard Dörries, Neue Sachlichkeit painter from Hanover is known for his severe still lives from the 1970s; is presented here, along with gouaches from the 1950s that are being shown for the first time. These gouaches display nuances of colour not usually connected with this artist. Painted in southern Italy, in Apulia, Ischia and Sicily, they reflect the magical pastose chalky colours of Apulia. Inge Höher, his life partner and former student, is a generation younger than Dörries and is still working as a painter. In addition to early still lives and window paintings, created in Cadagues, she also presents works here from the last ten years, which go under the main heading of “Painter’s heaven”.
