Jochen Plogsties

Art Prize Leipziger Volkszeitung 2011

Using contemporary painting and his ‘back translations’ of reproductions of paintings, Jochen Plogsties raises awareness of processes and variances of artistic appropriation. Visual strategies are recondensed based on works originating throughout the whole of art history. Plogsties’ conceptual approach combines an appropriative attitude with a subjective gesture: with his selection and repetition of motifs, he renegotiates the level of abstraction and adaptation in each work. In 2011, Jochen Plogsties was awarded the Kunstpreis der Leipziger Volkszeitung. This catalogue represents part of the award and covers in particular the artist’s latest works.
