Leben Lieben Leiden

The images of women of young female artists

„Leben Lieben Leiden“ brings together young female artists who work with, question and investigate historical and present-day perceptions of “femininity” as a theme or social model. The issue of a true “female aesthetic” is not the focus of these diverse female-artistic positions; much more it is to discern what happens when “femininity” becomes a category. In their – at times – playful examinations of old and new “myths about women” and of the oft-quoted personal artistic identity, they have created new works for this project that – sensual, humorous, thoughtful, controversial, provocative – look at attributions of “femininity”, question these and decode the complex interlinking of subject and power, without producing new feminine myths.
