Photography from Leipzig

Even through Leipzig is frequently associated primarily with painting when it comes to art, the city has always been an important centre for photography.
Covering the work of 25 artists, this catalogue provides an overview of photography in Leipzig from the 1970s up to the present day. It illustrates in particular the development of conceptually diverse and new approaches to the photography of the graduates of the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst.
Taking the photography collection of the Kunstmuseum Dieselkraftwerk Cottbus as its point of departure, the catalogue includes prominent works of photographic art from the former East Germany and illustrates important post-1990 positions. The works exemplify the critical distance from reality, both in terms of private and everyday perspectives and public, global contexts, that is a hallmark of Leipzig photography to date.
