Neue Heimat (A new homeland)

The great variety of new art in Berlin is presented in this catalogue. It investigates a significant artistic and social symptom that characterises our times: the location of the individual. In a global world shaped by mobility, this is one of the challenges of our contemporary lives. The artists and people of today spend a great part of their lives away from their place of birth. Artists create their own world, sometimes even in the form of real houses, caves and environments; but they also manufacture symbolic digital worlds of longing. In doing so, they distance themselves from the vastness and randomness of an overpowering and constantly changing world. This reaction to reality can however also be an escape into an imaginary world, to a place of individual ideals and dreams. This book arranges this exhilarating subject into four chapters: people and architecture, people and nature, the world of objects, and mobility.
