Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz

The Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz, founded in 1920, contains more than 60 000 exhibits, creating a comprehensive collection of paintings, sculptures, works on paper, textiles, and arts and crafts from the 16th to the 21st century. However, financial funding was previously not available to complete the Classic Modern Art and Contemporary Art collections. However, thanks to the generous financial support of an anonymous donor, in the last two years we have acquired the 36 works that are presented in this catalogue. Classic Modern works include Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Georg Tappert, Max Ackermann and an early painting by Fritz Winter. Contemporary art by Jörg Immendorff and Günther Förg and 26 works by Markus Lüpertz make up the most substantial acquisitions.
