Werkbund, Bauhaus and Ulmer Schule, Germany’s three great socially zero-based design movements of the early twentieth century, set standards internationally. By the 1980s, however, it was Italy that had become Europe’s design powerhouse and even today, it is to Italy, Holland, France and Scandinavia that the world looks when it comes to European design.
