SECESSIONISTS

Fin-de-siècle paintings and sculptures from the Stiftung Gunzenhauser

The Chemnitz-based Gunzenhauser Collection is a treasure chest yet to be opened, full of fascinating fin-de-siècle art. The 400 or so works from the period 1890 to 1914 assembled there have never before been exhibited or published en bloc.
This presentation of more than sixty paintings and sculptures by some of the leading artists of the period at last provides an opportunity to discover this treasure for ourselves. The exhibits range from works by Les Nabis, a French group of artists and its associates, to paintings from the famous artists’ colonies in Dachau and Worpswede, works by the German Secessionists in Berlin and Munich and the Vienna Secessionists in the Austrian capital, examples of Jugendstil and Symbolism, as well as the first stirrings of Expressionism.
