statement: Anke Mila Menck

Many of the works and projects by Anke Mila Menck (born in 1973) emphasise the playful element of art, and portray “homo artifex” as a “homo ludens”, for example in installations like Drei Schwestern (2004) or Choisyring-Rennen (2002). Her objects suggest a perfect, but never strict construction, one that contrasts the real world with the “building blocks” of its basic structures and adds to them: as a work of art. The elements that Anke Mila Menck uses to create her objects are similar to the fractals also used to describe and portray complex structures. It is therefore no coincidence that the cloud is one of her favourite motifs; this is an almost formless figure that attains a seal of solidity from this artist.
