Thelma Herzl - ASKA

Formations from Icelandic Volcanic Ash
The work of the Icelandic artist Thelma Herzl includes design, painting and her current art practice and generates tension from the contrasts between the natural word of Iceland and its modern understanding of culture, thus producing unexpected observations. Her new project is also unexpected: she discovered unique ash formations, at the edge of the Eyjafjallajökull volcano. Her photographs add a memorable level to the collective memory of the ash cloud of 2010 and facilitate an unexpected interpretation of the volcanic explosion. The formations are of infinite variety and invite a quiet but equally profound dialogue between humans and nature.
