At a time when blank spots have by and large disappeared from maps, “wilderness” has returned in art. The Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt has dedicated an extensive theme-based exhibition to this recurring fascination.

Ulrich Gebert

a Rat is a Pig is a Dog is a Boy
Ulrich Gebert’s conceptual photographs and installations address, in a sometimes critical, often humorous way, the culturally defined relationship that humans have with nature and their environment. He develops his works based on found visual material and objects. Playing with the aesthetic of various materials and display forms becomes an important element of his art practice.
In this lovingly designed artist’s book, Gebert presents current works
that make us think and smile about human beings, animals and the ‘other’.
