Ulrich Möckel
100% Tree – Sculpture and Drawings
“ The sculptor Ulrich Möckel lives and works in the forest and with the forest. His sculptures are created from wood taken from trees that grow close to where he lives. Yet, Möckel does not deal with the archaic; he is a visionary artist whose work is genuinely transformatory. His artistic interest focuses on exploring the material of wood as regards its ambivalence as a natural and artificial form and its transformation into other states” (Otto Rothfuss/Margarete Rebmann).
This book documents Möckel’s most recent exhibition 100% Baum (100% Tree). Here the material of wood plays an unusually subordinate role; in fact, here it gives form to different sculptures in concrete, aluminium, bronze and also neon tubes. For the first time, drawings created during this project are being documented – a further development of the artistic vocabulary of Ulrich Möckel.
