Zeitsprung. The Art Scene in Düsseldorf 1966–1972

photographs by Jörg Boström

From 1965 to 1972 the painter and photographer Jörg Boström (*1936) played an essential role in the vibrant art and cultural scene in Düsseldorf. He accompanied actions, demonstrations, discussions and protests from artists role as a photographer, and was also active as a founder member of the group Politisch Soziale Realität (Political social reality); this was artistic activity that had the aim of bringing about social change.
Boström’s photographs are cultural-historical documents of the years of these improvised movements and also of social change, which confronted artists and cultural institutions with new challenges. These photographs not only document the turbulent events that took place in Düsseldorf; they also powerfully show the determination and self-confidence of the 1968 protest movement.
