In this book, Winfried Wolk provides an insight into 30 years of his life. In August 1989 he was allowed to travel to West Germany on a limited visa for an exhibition of his works. The escalation of the crisis before the 40th anniversary of the GDR prompted him to call for non-violence and reform. He thus became an important political voice around the time that the Berlin Wall fell.
His memories, together with letters and other documents and 50 of his pictures bring alive his life in and around 1968. A look at the years following 1989 completes the story, a story of behaviour in difficult times.
