Bettina Bürkle and Klaus Illi
Breathing of Clouds
This publication provides an overview of the works of artist duo Illi and Bürkle, which feature in their joint project, Pflanzenatem / Wolkenatem (Breathing of Plants / Breathing of Clouds).
In their pneumatic sculptures, Bettina Bürkle and Klaus Illi make the invisible, but existentially necessary, element of air visible. This staged sky full of clouds encompasses art, nature and technology. The poetry of their kinetic sculptures, of the soaring and collapsing cloud shapes, develops from the slowness and diversity of the movement. Different rhythms constantly give rise to new overall configurations, which incorporate the space and the viewer, thus addressing the issues of breathing and allowing to breathe.
