Abraham David Christian
THE WAY 道 DER WEG
Abraham David Christian’s sculptural work is shaped by the experiences of travelling to and time spent by the artist in Asia, Africa, Europe and the USA, and also by his in-depth knowledge of foreign cultures and forms of expression.
The Japanese character for “path” used in the title describes Christian’s art practice: “The path is the goal”. The path is also a silent journey, linked with balance; both run throughout and define the exhibition and accompanying catalogue: “When silence reaches the innermost part of a person, then the person open up to that which was formerly hidden”. This can be experienced in this first presentation of a new series of monumental bronze sculptures Hayama_7 : The Towers of Wisdom and in the four-tonne bronze Interconnected Sculpture, which Abraham David Christian worked on for more than three years and illustrates one of his leitmotifs: “If a person can dream of something, then he or she can achieve it”.
