RADIO Days
Tube Radios, Design Classics, Internet Radio
Radio initially developed into a mass medium in the early twentieth century. Designing radio devices rapidly became an important task for prominent international designers. The catalogue accompanying the eponymous exhibition at the Museum für Angewandte Kunst (Museum of Applied Arts) in Cologne traces the path of the radio up to the present day — from pure components and wooden boxes, “cathedrals” and “skyscrapers”, to cult design objects and opulent music cabinets, all the way to fun miniature devices. At the same time, the catalogue is also the museum’s twenty-first inventory and the first to provide a complete survey of its extensive collection of radios.
