Franz Radziwill is regarded as an exceptional, maverick artist with great charisma. Thanks to his mutability his oeuvre is always in a fascinating, polarized relationship between the traditional and the avant-garde. This publication features early Expressionist prints; Old Master-style nighttime scenes; romantic, snowy landscapes; and his apocalyptic late works of art. It focuses on Radziwill’s use of contrasting lights and darks, and is the first in a five-part series about Radziwill’s visual strategies, which in ensuing years encompassed the use of color, perspective, planes, and light.
