Bastian Muhr

The book accompanying the solo exhibition of Bastian Muhr at the Museum Wiesbaden documents the large-format hand drawings of the artist presented there and offers a more in-depth introduction to his working method. With his individual technique, Muhr examines drawing with respect to its formal qualities, thus making manifestations of the materials used and the character of the workmanship come to the fore. The pictorial character of the sheets loses its importance; questions of composition and orientation play a subordinate role. Muhr also leaves the process of creating his works to a combination of systematic and coincidence. The drawings thus not only achieve a beguiling sensuousness, but also call classical strategies of generating images into question.
