James White
Small Paintings
In his monochrome paintings, the British artist James White (*1967) depicts individual aspects of day-to-day life. Based on photos he takes himself, seemingly insignificant details or moments are enriched in the act of painting with temporal superimpositions and consequently dilated. Putatively tranquil domestic settings contain a strong psychological component and point, without depicting people, to human presence, giving the impression that something is happening or has just happened. In the volume Bodies, which was published by the Kerber Verlag in 2017, large-format paintings were presented. The new publication with its high-quality features puts the emphasis on sixty small-format works from the past fifteen years.
