Margret Wibmer
ambiguity – bodies, objects and spaces
Margret Wibmer works systematically on the border between art and fashion. Her photographs, objects, installations and performances frequently feature clothing designed by the artist herself. These clothes are not just “worn”, they also act as an instrument of reflection.
The analogy between cutting and sewing clothes and combining cut-out motifs to form collages is a legacy of Surrealism, and one that Margret Wibmer is currently developing. In her installations, she experiments with materials and technologies, confusing the physical experience and sense of space by using digital maps and scans. The familiar appears strange and mysterious, due mainly to the unusual combination of bodies, objects and materials.
