Human enjoyment of aesthetically pleasing objects is thousands of years old and has constantly changed, both technically and stylistically. Leather, a robust, mouldable and adaptable material lent itself perfectly to be cut and punched, gilded and painted. Emperors, kings and church dignitaries had valuable objects made from leather, and even today, designer articles created from the tanned skin of cows, sheep and fish like skate are accompanied by a touch of luxury.
