In 2002/2003, the artist Markus Lüpertz (born in 1941) was commissioned by ALTANA AG to create a large sculpture of Daphne.
The development of the piece includes drawings, watercolours, large-format etchings and 30 maquettes of various sizes leading up to the finished bronze. During this creative process, Markus Lüpertz was photographed by Benjamin Katz (born in Antwerp in 1939).
