Denise Green
The work of Denise Green (born in 1946 in Melbourne), which unfolds within the dynamic interface between figuration and abstraction, unites the influences of very different cultures. The artist is not only interested in the art of the Australian Aborigines and the theatre and architecture of the Indian subcontinent, but also in European painting, history and philosophy. She is influenced by American Abstract Expressionism and has an especial affinity for Joseph Beuys, who, in a similar way, was also interested in archetypical, pictures laden with spiritual meaning.
This book shows works from the period between 1972 and 2006 and so provides a comprehensive view of the oeuvre of Denise Green. A new series of work is the focus here, a series that she created specially for the Museum Kurhaus Kleve.
