The internationally renowned photographer Walter Vogel is widely known for his unforgettable portraits of Pina Bausch and Joseph Beuys. What has, however, received less attention thus far is his art of photographing female beauty.

Mare Morto • Refugees • Stranded
MARE MORTO is the result of several years of research by Dieter Huber in Sicily and the islands of southern Italy. It focuses on an issue that is currently experiencing a dramatic escalation: the wave of refugees fleeing from Africa to Europe.
The ambiguous meaning of the title refers both to the countless boats full of refugees that have sunk and to the corpses in the southern Mediterranean as well as to the famous bay on the island of Lampedusa: the “quiet sea”. The metaphor of the boot is the main motif of these cycles of photographs. Huber’s tondi evoke associations of a circular porthole or what is seen through a telescope, into a potential future.
