Helmut Schmidt

The sculptures and paintings of Rainer Fetting
“I never view anything as finished”, commented Rainer Fetting, the Berlin sculptor and painting on his work. This viewpoint is evident in his latest cycle of works on the subject of the former German Chancellor, Helmut Schmidt. Fetting has created portraits of the politician in a variety of media: seven (eight) different bronzes, oil paintings, etchings and pastels. “Working in series allows me to view different versions of a subject next to each other”.
The book Helmut Schmidt – Sculptures and Paintings by Rainer Fetting accompanies every stage of the creative process of the Schmidt cycle. It documents a work of art that is unique in every way. The DVD accompanying the book provides insight the artistic practice of the artist. It includes the television documentary on Helmut Schmidt Der Lotse, which contains diverse images from the life of Helmut Schmidt.
