Gustav Kluge
Nach der Schrift
In his artistic work, Gustav Kluge explores the depths of human existence. He finds his way to the tortured and the oppressed – also in the stories of the Bible – and raises them into the present day.
The radical way that he confronts these biblical characters is supported by the gravity with which he unites life and art. He identifies with the lives and fates of those portrayed. This lends work a truthful and convincing character.
The German Bible and Culture Foundation has awarded its 2006 Foundation Prize to Gustav Kluge in recognition of his work as a painter and graphic artist.
