Rolf Glasmeier
Retrospektive
The comprehensive and very varied art practice of Rolf Glasmeier is characterised by the bringing together of apparently oppositional elements, the traversing of borders and the removal of traditional categories.
In his early works, the department store objects, Glasmeier uses serially produced industrial everyday objects as artistic components and creates interactive works that show the familiar in a new context and are designed to include changeability. From the mid-1970s, elements of consumer society begin to be replaced by natural materials. Glasmeier’s use of found objects brings him closer to archaic art forms; he combines a rational structuralist method with an intuitive approach and extends this investigation of structure to universal questions.
