1919 Joins the Kommunistische Partei Deutschland (KPD), begins studying at the Kunstakademie in Dresden
1921 Participation in the March Action in Central Germany
In the nineteen-twenties, member of the Novembergruppe, the Bielefeld group “Der Wurf,” the “Junge Rheinland,” as well as the Dresdner Sezession Gruppe 1919
1933 Imprisonment and confiscation of works from Griebel’s studio; Griebel’s conditional release
1935–39 Exhibition designer at the German Hygiene Museum in Dresden
1939–40 Military service
1940–43 Designer for the “Deutsche Landwerbung GmbH” and exhibition designer in Krakow
1944 Compulsory service as a technical draftsman at the Pioneer headquarters in Poland (discharged in January 1945)
February 13, 1945 Destruction of his apartment and studio in the bombing of Dresden, loss of all the works in his possession
1946–52 Works as an art teacher in Dresden
1952–60 Docent and director of studies at the Arbeiter- und Bauern-Fakultät der Hochschule für Bildende Künste Dresden
