Erik Bulatov
O
Born in Sverdlovsk, Ukraine in1933, Erik Bulatov is one of the most influential artists the former Soviet Union has ever produced. His works are represented worldwide in the major exhibitions and collections of Russian avant-garde art. This lavish, partially hand-crafted book is published on the occasion of the painter´s first solo exhibition in Berlin. Enriched with numerous colour illustrations, it is dedicated to his three most recent series of works. In his essay, the French art historian Damien Sausset illuminates the phenomena of the diagonal line, light, and in particular the reproduction of spoken sounds in Bulatov´s most recent drawings and paintings, and places these in the context of Bulatov´s creative work since the 1970s.
