Cordula Güdemann
49 VIPs
The human form has always been part of the work of Cordula Güdemann. Faces and physical postures that erase individuality predominate in her work. Thus this little book of collected pseudo-portraits represents a new departure for her. The realism of the heads stands out. Some remind us of people that we think we have seen somewhere before.
In her series 49 VIPs, Cordula Güdemann paints representatives of a social group, yet she does not paint them as individuals but instead in the way they are presented by the media – as social prototypes that are interchangeable, they can be good or bad, clever or stupid, cultured and educated or indifferent and limited, young or old, male or female.
