Johannes Frandsen
Touch me
Touch Me captures scenes in dance courses, amusement parks and cruise ships in Sweden. In all these places people gather to dance to “dansbandsmusik” (Swedish for dance band music). The word does not only describe the music, but also the ritual of going out to dance, and the relationships between people. But for all the participants – women and men, old and young – being on the dance floor is about some of the most intense human needs: Romance, human touch and being together. It is also how Johannes Frandsen's (*1983) depiction of this Swedish cultural phenomenon works. It takes the viewers out to dance, rather than telling them about the dance. It speaks directly about what neither can nor should be explained.
